Purpose of this Policy

Highlands Innovation CIC is committed to minimising our environmental impact and promoting sustainable practices across all of our activities and projects. As a social enterprise, we recognise our responsibility to operate in a way that protects the environment, supports long-term ecological wellbeing and contributes positively to our communities.

Our Environmental Commitments

We aim to:

• Reduce waste and promote reuse, repair and recycling wherever possible.
• Minimise energy consumption and improve energy efficiency within our operations.
• Encourage responsible use of materials and select sustainable alternatives where practical.
• Lower our carbon footprint through conscious planning, digital solutions and efficient resource use.
• Support staff, volunteers and partners in adopting environmentally responsible behaviours.

Resource Management

We strive to manage resources responsibly by reducing single-use materials, maximising recycling and selecting environmentally conscious suppliers. We prioritise equipment with longer lifecycles and support circular-economy approaches across our projects.

Energy and Emissions

We aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by improving energy efficiency, using low-carbon technologies where possible and reducing non-essential travel. Whenever practical, we utilise remote working and digital collaboration to minimise environmental impact.

Waste Reduction and Circular Practices

We prioritise practices that extend the life of technology and other materials through reuse, refurbishment and repair. We support circular-economy models and seek opportunities to divert usable equipment and resources away from landfill.

Working with Partners and Suppliers

We encourage our partners, suppliers and collaborators to adopt environmentally responsible practices. When selecting providers, we consider environmental performance, sustainability commitments and alignment with our values as a social enterprise.

Continuous Improvement

We are committed to regularly reviewing and improving our environmental practices. We monitor our progress, learn from experience and adapt our approaches to ensure ongoing positive impact and responsible stewardship of resources.
